“The Word Exposed”, Jesuit Communication Foundation’s (JesCom) Sunday Scripture reflection and Catechism program, invites the Catholic faithful for an Easter Recollection with Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, on May 5, 2019 from 08: 00 AM to 12 noon at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Cubao, Quezon City. As the church celebrates the Third Sunday of Easter, the Filipino people find themselves at the crossroads of yet another pivotal event in its nation’s history- thus making the date an opportune time for much prayer and contemplation.
“In general, people are anxious, if not antsy, because of the coming elections in May. Whatever happens then, how does a Christian proclaim that Jesus is truly risen, that light has overcome the darkness, love has triumphed over hate, or that life always finds a way?,” explains JesCom Executive Director, Fr.Nono Alfonso SJ.
Centering on the theme of ‘Darkness’ and ‘Light’, the highlighted verse for this year’s Easter Recollection, Ephesians 5:8, invites Christians to reexamine how they can be ‘light-bearers’ in today’s world, thus turning away from becoming instruments of the forces of darkness.
“We follow Jesus who is light. Our liturgy at the Easter Vigil Mass was replete with this symbol of light– Jesus is the Easter Candle of our lives, providing us with light, with guidance, with direction. And yet we must admit that most often, we feel discouraged, frustrated, defeated,” underscores Fr.Nono.
“Easter is the season to re-affirm our baptism, our new identities in Jesus as salt and light of the world. We hope the Easter recollection can challenge us indeed how to become an instrument of light in our country and in our world today,” Fr.Nono adds.
With the esteemed Cardinal Tagle guiding and inspiring his flock to continue living as true “Easter People” no matter what circumstances they might face, fans and followers of The Word Exposed are sure to encounter newfound courage and hope as they reflect on the mystery of Christ’s glorious resurrection.
“Now more than ever, we need to gather together as God’s people to strengthen one another, to pray for one another, to inspire one another. Now more than ever, we also need to listen to the Word of God, as our Good Cardinal exposes it to us, so we can be strengthened and inspired by no less than our Lord,” encourages Fr.Nono.
“Bring your family and friends and together, as one Church, let us re-commit ourselves to the Light of the world.”
