The Windhover (Philippine Jesuit Magazine)

Windhover Windhover Poem

The Windhover is a magazine produced by the Jesuit Ministry in the Philippines for the purpose of sharing Ignatian Spirituality and its mission to others. Its name is taken from a poem written by the English poet Gerard Manley Hopkins. He was a Jesuit and wrote in the late 19 th century. In this poem which he dedicates “to Christ our Lord”, he describes the splendid and craftful flight of a falcon, the windhover, and then describes how he was so taken by the bird that his heart stirred for it. But if the flight of the falcon could draw him so intensely to it, how much more could Christ draw us to Himself?!

The poem thus speaks of how one can be so taken by the person of Christ as to discover the Lord as the fulfillment of one's deepest desires. Christ then is the windhover to whom we are all so intensely drawn and the attraction to whom is the driving force of all our action and decisions. Thus, in searching for a title for this magazine, it seemed fitting to choose a name that referred to the center of the work, prayer, and life that will be contained in the magazine: Jesus Christ our Lord, the Windhover!

In the past seven years, THE WINDHOVER has developed a growing following among its readers, consisting not only of benefactors and religious co-workers of Jesuits, but also of lay collaborators, vocation prospects and reader enthusiasts from other religious and lay communities. THE WINDHOVER is widely distributed in Metro Manila, in the province and in abroad.

We are celebrating our 8th year in the publication industry and would like to reach more readers! As such, this invitation for your valuable subscription is timely and would be a great welcome to our family. Copies of the publication will be delivered to you by second class mail or by courier from our distribution centers.

Your subscription shall contribute immensely and would employ us to reach more people in the mission.
