On May 16, Jesuit Communications, together with SIGNIS Philippines, conducted a seminar on social media ethics at the San Carlos Seminary in Guadalupe, Makati City. Participants from the Social Communications and Family Ministries of various parishes attended the seminar to better understand the impact of social media.
The talk began with the opening remarks from SIGNIS Philippines President, Mr. Bernard F. Cañaberal. The president of YouthPinoy, Ms. April Frances “Sky” Ortigas, discussed how their group uses social media to become Online Missionaries of God (OMG), evangelizing and promoting advocacies. In a talk titled #Nega, JesCom Social Media Manager Ms. Mari Bianca Orenciana explained the misuses and abuses that social media users encounter regularly. JesCom Training Manager Mr. Paolo Antonio Gonzalez’s talk touched on Cyber-ethics and proper behavior when online.
For the last part of the seminar, the participants grouped themselves according to their sector and were asked to come up with their own Social Media Usage Agreements. Groups representing educators, parents, Church workers, and the youth later presented their output on stage.
